This role sits within BWCI’s regulated Insurance Management and Brokerage business and is responsible for supporting the delivery of insurance management and broking services across a portfolio of clients.
Initially, the role will focus on a small number of key general insurance clients, including home and healthcare programmes, managing the day-to-day policy administration, claims, reinsurance reporting and operational processes in line with management agreements and service levels. The role will also support a range of South African life insurance clients, including branch and multinational structures.
Over time, the role will expand to include greater involvement in broking activities and wider insurance management client work. This is a hands-on role suited to a well-organised and proactive individual who can take ownership of client servicing, support junior colleagues and contribute to the growth of the business.
What you would be doing
- Support the Insurance Management and Broking teams in delivering high-quality services to clients
- Act as a day-to-day point of contact for clients, policyholders, insurers and service providers
- Handle client interactions, queries and ensure timely resolution
- Support the day-to-day servicing of clients in line with service level agreements
- Oversee administration of the policy lifecycle including quoting, renewals, adjustments and policy issuance
- Support broking activities including obtaining quotes, liaising with insurers and preparing documentation
- Ensure policy records are accurate, up-to-date and audit-ready
- Liaise with third-party providers to meet policyholder requirements
- Handle claims processes from notification through to settlement
- Process premiums, payment reconciliations and resolve outstanding payments
- Perform commission calculations, checks and reconciliations
- Support debtor management activities
- Prepare and reconcile monthly bordereaux (premium, claims and reinsurance)
- Support reinsurance reporting processes and monitor balances
- Assist with financial and bookkeeping processes, including reconciliation of client monies
- Ensure accurate record keeping across all client files and systems
- Produce management information and client reporting
- Prepare Board packs and draft minutes
- Contribute to internal policies, procedures and compliance requirements
- Identify and support process improvement initiatives
- Assist with supervision, training and development of junior team members
- Contribute positively to team culture and wider business initiatives
Who you will be reporting to
- Manager, Insurance Management
Skills and experience required
- 4–5 years’ relevant experience in insurance management, insurance broking or a similar financial services environment
- Practical experience in policy administration, renewals, quoting and claims handling
- Experience with client servicing, payment handling and debtor management
- Experience preparing and reconciling bordereaux and commission calculations
- Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail
- Clear and professional communication skills with the ability to deal confidently with clients and insurers
- Ability to prioritise workload and manage multiple clients effectively
- Proactive approach with ownership of tasks through to completion
- Experience working within a regulated environment
- Working towards or holding a relevant qualification (e.g. ACII) or equivalent experience
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)
- Desirable: experience with property or healthcare insurance products
- Desirable: exposure to reinsurance and reporting processes
- Desirable: experience with South African life insurance structures
- Desirable: bookkeeping or reconciliation experience
- Desirable: experience supervising or mentoring junior staff
